For our Executive Coaching Programmes we use professionally qualified coaches only. The coach works with the client in regular 1:1 structured conversations involving questionning and reflection, which help the client get results faster.

Diction Coaching

Diction Coaching is part of our Clear Speech for Business Programme. Diction Coaching focuses on helping you speak clearly so that you are understood easily by others. It includes work on diction, pronunciation, intonation and stress:

• Diction
  how clearly you enunciate sounds and deliver your message
• Pronunciation
  how you pronounce English so that you can be easily understood
• Intonation
  how to vary the music of your voice to make meaning clear
• Stress
  how to emphasise words to obtain the effect you want

Your Diction Coach will analyse how you speak before creating a programme of exercises to make your speech easier for others to understand. If your mother tongue is not English, there may be exercises to counteract interference or to train you to enunciate certain new sounds.

Case-study

As a result of feedback from colleagues, a Spanish employee working in the UK came to us to improve her clarity in speaking English at work. She realised that colleagues found her pronunciation of English too fast and difficult to follow.

We provided a programme using 2 different Diction Coaches - one worked as a Diction Coach focused on the technical detail of pronunciation, stress, intonation and enunciation. Then our Presentation Coach helped her put all she had learnt together in presenting to clients and at meetings.

Progress was evaluated with her line-manager at 3-month intervals. By the end of the programme it was clear that her pronunciation was much improved - and within weeks she was promoted.

Writing Coaching

Many people want to improve their writing. It may be that they speak well but make many mistakes in grammar, spelling and punctuation. Or, their writing may be perfectly correct but rather dull and heavy to read. Either way, Oxford Professional English can help.

Case-study

The Director of Corporate Communications in a large global organisation wanted to polish the writing skills of his team of 12 professionals, some very senior and experienced with others relatively inexperienced.

Our tailor-made programme began with a half-day writing workshop for the whole group, which introduced our Writing Preparation Model, as well as tips and strategies. This was followed by 8 individual hours for each person with the Writing Coach, by email and phone, with the coachees located in the US, UK or Norway.

The 3 most senior clients were very experienced indeed in their roles, as well as being very competent and advanced users of English. They used the coach as a "writing partner" to work with, to give expert feedback on style and suggest alternative ways of expressing ideas.

As a result of the Writing Coaching, the team is able to write more quickly, with texts now more stylish, dynamic and readable. Added value has been gained because the team now follows a shared process using our Writing Preparation Model.

Case-study

A manager from a large drinks company based in Denmark booked 10 coaching sessions after her English course in Oxford. Her first goal was to create a business presentation for an international meeting.

She worked with her coach on creating a clear message and on the delivery so that her presentation made a positive and confident impact at the international meeting. Her coach also helped improve the powerpoint slides. Later she used the sessions to discuss and improve her intercultural skills, raising her awareness of the different expectations of foreign colleagues and discovering how she could adapt her communication style.
